My goal was to reach the half way point by my birthday, so I guess I made it... I'm not 53 till a week today.
Enough Said!
We didn't get the kilometers in that I wanted to get done, as my goal was 50 that day, so we
went for lunch and than we did a 20 kilometer run for a Starbucks Latte...., oh and it was so worth it! Best darn latte I had in a long time... I did get my 50 kms in that day, but I had to go up and down in front of a seniors home to get the last one in, I hope the lady sitting out front didn't think she was losing it, or seeing double. When I came home I was exhausted and my recovery time was till the next day, thank goodness Wes is Wes and after an hour or so of relaxing made me a lovely dinner. Life is good.
I got asked a week or so ago why I don't cycle more roads, and the main reason is because I have wobbly days where I weave a bit and certainly don't want to weave into traffic. I do feel comfortable on residential streets, I guess I feel they are going slower and I won't die if I run into a vehicle. I do love the trails though I find I feed off the energy of those using them and the activity in the playgrounds. This week the kids are still not bored from no school and are laughing and enjoying the lazy days of summer. I especially like to watch the youth at the skateboard park, there is some amazing talent there... This week, the special moment was having to slowly cross one of the bridges that goes over the creek that wanders through Cochrane, where two little girls where playing Poo stick races. Wes and I spent many hours in the same spot doing that with Scott. Ask me if I was smiling.
I made the half way point on July 5th, I was hoping sooner, but my chain broke for no reason, so I took two days off and refueled my energy. I believe things happen for a reason, and I'm sure I needed the rest.
Today, we put our panniers on our bikes, picked up a friend and did a little run along the river and than headed to the farmers market to pick up some vegs and fruit. Wes and I have been riding our bikes to the farmers market on Saturday for a couple of years. It's a great way to start our weekend off.
I am excited to be at the half way, and am hoping to get done sooner than I originally thought, it is taking over my life. One of the things I realize about myself through this is I need balance in my life, and I am missing gardening, quilting, golf and just wasting a day doing nothing. I have no regrets in doing this journey and I find it amazing that 12 years ago I thought I would never cycle or walk a far distance again. Once again I have to say Life is Good. I'm officially at 772.9 kms.
In my dream world I have left lovely Saskatoon, and I just missed the horrible storm they had! I love looking at the living skies, and the wheat fields as I cycle on FLAT pavement. The memories of laying down and watching clouds fill my mind. I have just left Lanigan and am on my way to Dafoe. Wes used to go to the show in Lanigan as a youngster and has fond memories of the place. For me it was a place we stopped for a snack and bathroom break on way back to Saskatoon from Melville at a gas station that used to be run by Uncle Stan.
Thanks again for all the support.
Theresa
